Demodex are tiny parasitic mites that live in the hair follicles and eat dead skin cells and oils which accumulate in the hair follicles. In humans, Demodex mites are found on the skin of the forehead, cheeks, eyelashes, sides of the nose and external ear canals. The mites are 0.3-0.4 mm in length and have eight short segmented legs.

Demodex do not usually bother us, however, if they excessively increase in number they may cause skin problems which may require treatment.
